Did you know that kids who eat a healthy school breakfast do better in math, have higher attendance and are more likely to graduate?

School breakfast fuels academic success! Yet, each day too many Louisiana students miss out. Make this school year the best one yet: join the Louisiana School Breakfast Challenge and see how easy it is to provide a healthy breakfast and a great start to every student!

Challenge Prizes

All Louisiana schools participating in the School Breakfast Program can enter the Challenge. Schools may enter one of the three prize categories listed below:

3 Ways to win!

PRIZE CATEGORY #1

  • Increase Breakfast Average Daily Participation (ADP) Rate  ×
  • Increase school breakfast participation by getting more kids at your school to eat!
  • Your school’s breakfast ADP for October 2016 will be compared to the ADP for October 2017.
  • One school in each of 5 regions with the largest increase in ADP will win $1000. If multiple schools within the region have the same increase in ADP, the schools will be placed in a regional drawing*.
  • Additional prizes will be awarded to the following schools:
    • 1 Autographed Saints Football                         School with 2nd highest ADP increase in each region* 
    • 200 “Fuel Up to Play 60” Sweatbands             School with 3rd highest ADP increase in each region*
    • 200 “Fuel Up to Play 60” Mini-Footballs           School with 4th highest ADP increase in each region*

*If there are multiple winners in each category and region, all winning schools will be placed in a drawing and one school will be randomly selected in that category to win the prize.

  • Increase Breakfast ADP and Monthly Milk Consumption   ×
  • Increase school breakfast participation by getting encouraging more students to eat breakfast AND choose milk!
  • Your school’s breakfast ADP and milk consumption for October 2016 will be compared to breakfast ADP and milk consumption for October 2017.
  • 2 Statewide Grand Prize Winners!
    • 1 K-8th grade school will win a Saints Pep Rally with an appearance by Saint’s Mascot, Gumbo; two 2018 tickets for a Saints home game and an autographed Drew Brees jersey!*
    • 1 9th-12th grade school will win a Saints Pep Rally with an appearance by a Saints football player, two 2018 tickets for a Saints home game and an autographed Drew Brees jersey!*

PRIZE CATEGORY #3

  • Is your school already a breakfast rock star? Do you serve > 70% of your students?  ×
  • To qualify, your school’s breakfast ADP for October 2016 and October 2017 must be 70% or greater.
  • All schools meeting this criteria will be recognized on the LouisianaSchoolBreakfast.org website as a Hall of Fame school, AND be placed in a statewide drawing for a $1000 prize.
  • 3 Hall of Fame schools will win!

Timeline

August - September:            Schools and districts start to connect with tools and resources           

                                                at LouisianaSchoolBreakfast.org and begin planning activities.

September 21, 2017              No Kid Hungry Louisiana Kick-off event!

October 1, 2017                     Measurement begins for school breakfast participation

October 31, 2017                   Measurement ends for school breakfast participation

March 2018                            Winners will be announced during National School Breakfast Week!

NORTHEAST: Parishes of Caldwell, Catahoula, Concordia, East Carroll, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Tensas, Union, West Carroll, Winn, and City of Monroe.

NORTHWEST: Parishes of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, Vernon, Webster, Diocese of Alexandria, and Diocese of Shreveport.

SOUTHEAST: Parishes of Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, City of Bogalusa, City of Zachary, and New Orleans Archdiocese.
