Cooking Matter Resources
Cooking Matters is a six week nutritional education program that teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a low-income budget. Participants meet once a week with a chef and a nutritionist to learn skills needed to create nutritious meals for their families. Skills taught include how to read a nutrition label, how to plan meals, how to shop seasonally for fruits and vegetables and basic knife skills, among many more. One week the class takes a tour of a local grocery store to learn how to shop for healthy foods on a low-income budget. In each class participants cook a meal hands-on and eat the meal with their classmates at the end of the class. Additionally, each participant is given a bag full of ingredients to take home so they can make the meal again for their families.
