Louisiana Statewide School Breakfast Challenge A Huge Success!

Louisiana 2017 School Breakfast Challenge

We celebrated School Breakfast Week March 5-9, 2018 and announced the winning schools of Louisiana's School Breakfast Challenge! On March 7, 2018, North Corbin Jr High in Walker, LA hosted our announcement event where we welcomed our state's First Lady, Donna Edwards.  Mrs. Edwards was on hand to represent the Governor and speak on behalf of the state of Louisiana.  The Louisiana Dairy Alliance presented the  Fuel Up To Play 60 prize winners, and we announced the five Regional winners as well as the statewide winner of the $1000 grand prize.  We culminated our 2017-18 School Breakfast Week activities on March 9th, when French Settlement High School in Livingston Parish hosted our Saints Pep Rally with Saints running back Trey Edmunds attending.

During School Breakfast Week, we also revealed our Louisiana School Breakfast Challenge Hall of Fame poster!  Forty-six school in the state, all having reached at least 70% school breakfast participation will receive the Hall fo Fme designation and poster! Please see the poster below as well as the Hall of Fame designee schools.

The Louisiana School Breakfast Challenge as well as this year's awards and awards events were made possible as the result of NKH Louisiana's partnerships with Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards and the Governor's Office, The Governor's Children Cabinet, The USDA, The Louisiana Department of Child Nutrition and The Dairy Alliance.  We applaud the school leaders at over 300 schools across the state who also partnered with us and are helping to move us closer to our goal of ending childhood hunger by significantly increasing school breakfast participation in Louisiana.

Did you know that kids who eat a healthy school breakfast do better in math, have higher attendance and are more likely to graduate?

Over 300 schools statewide participeted in this year's School Breakfast Challenge, resulting in over 150,000 additional breakfast meals being served during the month of October 2017 alone.
